RC THANE EAST HISTORY

In August 1980, Rotarian Dr. D.V.R. Gadwal of Rotary Club of Thane Was Appointed as GSR for the proposed Rotary Club of Thane East. His Visit to Thane East conducted  a survey of the area 
and prepared a classification roaster. 

He also appointed four key people in the area. They were: 
       1. Mr. Chandru Mirani 
       2. Dr. V. N. Joshi 
       3. Mr. A. Satyanarayan. 
       4. Mr. Narayan Kewalramani 

Initially, preparatory meetings were held in Hall of Anand Cinema at Thane East. List of 23 members was sent to Rotary International along with necessary papers and the admission fees. 

Rotary International gave the charter on May 11, 1981 signed by Rolf JKlarich, President of Rotary International Officer and Herbert A. Pigman, General Secretary. Rotary International 
Official Charter was presented to the club in June 1981.

The charter presentation function was arranged in the Vartak Sabhagrah of Zilla Parishad in Thane. The charter was presented to the Charter President Chandru Mirani by President Dr. Sham Kanbur of Rotary Club of Thane. The District Governor Rotarian M. P. Apte and other dignitaries from the district attended the function. 

Among the other dignitaries from Thane, the Thane Commissioner of Police Mr. J. Riberio and the Chief Officer of Thane Municipality Mr. Jagiasi and members of other Rotary Clubs attended this function. Our club is now 40 years young and is well known non-government organization in Thane East due to various useful community-based projects club has carried out.
